Course dates: Thursday 21st August to Wednesday 27th August 2008
The Lamp Room, Museum of Cannock Chase, Valley Road, Hednesford, Staffordshire WS12 1TD

This course is available exclusively to past and present IDTS students in all countries.
It is important for students to participate in continuing professional development to keep up their bank of knowledge. Having finished a course such as the IDTS it is not unusual to feel isolated and in need of support. Although students know that they can have help and guidance where required, it is essential to keep open lines of communication with other students and to continue to increase knowledge as well as to strengthen links with other students.
This week is all about learning more, renewing your interest and networking with students you already know as well as getting to know those from other countries. There will be some input from Sheila, although this week is more about workshops, sharing ideas, discussions finding out about how those in various countries work, and should provide the opportunity to keep you on the path of living the philosophy you have been introduced to, as well as having fun.
Suggestions for learning:
- discussion of literature – articles or books. Any suggestions should be made by end of May so that students have enough time to read any of the books they may be interested in discussing
- discussion of any case studies you may need help with, or selected case studies
- group work or short presentations on topics of your choice
- canine problem solving
- new developments in training / behaviour / health that can be presented by students or Sheila
Suggestions for activities:
- day out locally sight-seeing / visiting attractions
- day of watching other species – wolf (or other species) watching at the West Midlands Safari Park, monkey watching at Monkey Forest
- walking in Peak District / on Cannock Chase
- problem solving activities
It is intended that the week will be relaxed and informal. Learning will be interspersed with finding out more about the area and having days out. The intention is to incorporate activities we can do together, such as a night hike, a barbecue and any other suggestions you may have. There will be some group walking, with or without dogs, and anyone attending is welcome to bring their dogs, although as you know they should be able to stay in the car. The hall we are using is quite small, so please be aware that it is unsuitable for indoor work with dogs. If there is anything you would like to discuss, present or cover, please make suggestions when you book onto this course. It is your week – please be ready to get out of it what you would like.
Although this is a seven-day course, students may attend for all or part of the week. Please contact us for pricing details.
Accommodation will be in guest houses or a local camp site depending upon your requirements. If you require help with finding accommodation please ask. This may vary in price but we will do our best to find reasonably priced places for you to stay.
